Putting yourself out there can be scary. I get it. But trust in yourself and allow what makes you unique shine through!

Don’t try to be someone else. It takes a lot more work to fake it and you want people to appreciate you for you. Whether you on a personal or business level in the long run it is just a lot better to show them the real you. Just being the real you is one more way of doing less and living a better life!

Let’s get you started on expressing your unique self. Here are 7 points to keep in mind and get you are your way.

Be Confident in Who You Are

I love living in the country and am totally a tee shirt and flip flops kind of girl.

You need to be comfortable in your own skin. Don’t try to be someone you’re not. Accept yourself and learn to love yourself. Once you’re comfortable with yourself, it will be easy to let your true personality shine through.

For example; I am confident in the fact that even though I am in the skin care business I am not really in the “beauty area”. Yes, I want my skin, and my customer’s skin to look and feel good, but I don’t wear makeup or really do much beyond cleanse and moisturize.

Dress to Express Your Unique Self

What others think of your style is really none of their business. Dress how you want and wear whatever makes you feel good. Be confident in your choices, and don’t be afraid to experiment. Express yourself through your clothing and have fun with it.

Obviously, if you work or own a business you need to keep those requirements in mind. You should always be clean, neat and appear well groomed.

But take a look at my picture again of me at home in the country. I am not afraid to let people see me that way. Before I dove back in headfirst into my business, I made a lot of my own clothes and many of them were a bit quirky. That was fine with me. I loved making them and wearing them. Just don’t be afraid to be you.

Pursue Your Unique Interests and Passions

To be genuinely happy, you do need to do what makes you happy. If you’re doing something you love, it’ll show in your attitude and enthusiasm. People are drawn to positive energy and authenticity, which will assist you in remaining true to yourself. You won’t have time to worry about impressing others or believing you aren’t good enough if you are busy pursuing your goals.

Don’t Compare Yourself to Others

“Comparison is the thief of joy.”

Theodore Roosevelt

There is no quote quite as accurate as this one and at least for me one of the easiest traps to fall into!!

I can find myself comparing other businesses to mine even though they are very different. When things aren’t going my way, like today with backed up plumbing due to the fact that we are on a septic system and just had a LOT of rain recently. I may briefly think how awesome it would be to live somewhere with standard plumbing. Or maybe I look around at all of these fantastically successful young adults and wish I had done things differently when I was their age.

Don’t compare yourself to others. Don’t try to be like them, either. You’re unique and extraordinary in your own way. Embrace your differences and use them to your advantage.

The more focus you place on other people, and what they have that you don’t, you will quickly lose who you are and make it harder to find and be yourself.

Be Positive and Optimistic

No one wants to be around negativity. However, when you focus on the positive aspects of your life, it’s hard not to feel gratitude. This will make you more pleasant to be around, and people will respond positively to your optimistic attitude.

Not only will people enjoy being around you more, but you will enjoy your life more as well.

Stand Up for What You Believe In

Never give up on your ideals – especially when they are based on solid factual research and your own personal principles, morals, and values. This doesn’t mean pushing your beliefs onto others.

Instead, simply show people that you are confident in what you believe. They will respect you and also get to know you better. Once they know you better, they will be more likely to accept you for who you are.

One more step in doing less and achieving more. Not changing who you are and what you believe in is huge for that!

Don’t Take Yourself Too Seriously

Taking everything so seriously is a drag. More than that it is – a waste of the joy that your life could be. So instead, learn to laugh at yourself and relax. This will make you more approachable, and people will enjoy spending time with you.

It will also help you bring more fun into your life and let more of what is really you shine through.

Uniquely You Wrap-up

The above ideas will hopefully help you become and be your unique self with minimal effort. Just relax and be yourself. The goal here is not to do more but to do less and thereby allowing what makes you uniquely different to be front and center. Trust me, the world will value you for not trying too hard or doing too much.
