We think we have the 3 Best Shampoo Bars!

Share with your friends!

You might be wondering if it is worth spending more money on conditioning shampoo bars when you can get by with liquid versions. The answer: absolutely!

Solid shampoos have tons of advantages over their bottled counterparts, not the least being that they’re much easier on your environment since there’s no need for plastic bottles or other packaging waste in production (and disposal).

Shampoo bars are the new rage in hair care. They’re not just for show; they really do give your locks all of those benefits you would expect from fancy shampoos like conditioning and increased volume!

And they are better for the environment because they don’t come in a plastic bottle.

Still not sure? Read our primer points highlights on why a conditioning shampoo bar may be just what you need. Oh yeah, and we do mention a few bits about why we believe ours are up there in the best category.

How is a shampoo bar different from bar soap?

One of the key differences at least between our shampoo bars from our regular soaps is that we put a high percentage of castor oil into our shampoo bars. Castor oil is considered an excellent oil for hair care as well as for giving the bars that fluffy lather we want in our shampoo. This ingredient is very conditioning for both your hair and your scalp.

Takeaway here: Different ingredients make for a different washing experience which is what you want for your hair.

How do you use it?

  1. You want thoroughly wet hair. The shampoo bar should also be wet.
  2. Rub the shampoo bar on your hair and scalp to work up a nice lather. This shouldn’t take more than about 30 seconds to 1 min.
  3. Work shampoo lather through hair. If you are not getting enough lather add more water.
  4. Rinse well.
  5. Dry and use your styling products as normal. We recommend using your shampoo in the shower because not only can you get everything wet and rinsed easily, but our shampoo bars are body bars as well. One and done!

Is a solid bar more natural?

The typical answer to this is yes. A shampoo bar tends to use natural ingredients. Often traditional liquid shampoo contains chemicals and preservatives that can make the scalp dry.

Shampoo bars generally help improve the appearance of your hair by eliminating synthetic fragrances and additives that could contribute to dry, frizzy hair. This can also reduce hair loss and shedding, as happens when using a chemical product.

Of course, reading the labels to check for natural ingredients is important no matter what product you are buying.

Tooting our own horn here in that you don’t have to check our labels, because we only make natural bars! But go ahead and read them because we want you to see all the awesome things we put in our products.

Does a shampoo bar promote healthy hair?

Any time you can use a more natural product on your hair and body it is going to be more healthy for you. Reducing the number of chemicals and synthetics you use is always a good thing.

Going natural is especially good for damaged hair as well as fine hair that is often more delicate.

What does a conditioning shampoo bar do for your hair?

In our experience using a shampoo bar gives your hair more body. This in turn makes it easier to style with a finished look that is more healthy and bouncy.

Since the bar is both shampoo and conditioner you are conditioning your hair and scalp each time you shampoo.

Good, good and good!

How often should you use solid shampoo?

Use a shampoo bar as often as you would any other shampoo. If you tend to have oily hair then you probably shampoo more often than someone with dry hair. Don’t forget you can also use a shampoo bar as a body bar.

Pictured here is our Bay Rum Shampoo & Body Bar which is a bit of a spicy scent.

Do shampoo bars work better than liquid shampoos?

We make both liquid shampoo and solid shampoo bars. In our case, they are both all-natural and both conditioning.

However, we have to admit to being partial to our solid shampoo. We do feel like they give your hair more volume and we love the fact that you can use it as a body bar as well.

Every shampoo bar is not created the same. They are often handmade and everyone is formulated differently. One bar may suit you perfectly while another, maybe even best-selling makes your scalp itch. It may sometimes take some testing to get the best shampoo bars.

We certainly hope that you give ours a try, but we do recognize the concept of different strokes for different folks.

What hair types work with shampoo bars?

Shampoo bars work with all hair types. Again, read the label to see if the maker suggests specific hair types for that particular bar.

We recommend our Rosemary Mint Shampoo Bar for all hair types, our Hill Country for normal to oily hair, and the Bay Rum, primarily for oily hair.

Do shampoo bars break your hair?

When it comes to shampoo, there are a variety of different products on the market. While traditional liquid shampoos are still the most popular choice, shampoo bars have become increasingly popular in recent years. Shampoo bars are solid blocks of soap that can be used in the same way as liquid shampoo. However, some people worry that shampoo bars may damage their hair. So, do shampoo bars break your hair?

The short answer is no. Shampoo bars will not damage your hair any more than liquid shampoo will. In fact, some people find that shampoo bars are actually gentler on their hair than liquid shampoo. This is because shampoo bars do not contain any harsh chemicals or sulfates. However, it is important to use a shampoo bar properly in order to avoid damaging your hair. I went through these steps above, but they are important. So here once again, be sure to wet your hair thoroughly before applying the shampoo bar. Rub the bar directly onto your scalp, using circular motions. Once you have applied the shampoo bar, rinse your hair thoroughly with water.

If you follow these instructions, you should have no problem using a shampoo bar without damaging your hair. In fact, you may even find that your hair is softer and shinier after using a shampoo bar!

Still More Reasons to Pick a Conditioning Shampoo Bar. (esp. ours)

  • A solid shampoo bar is more eco-friendly simply because it does not come in a plastic bottle.
  • It is more travel friendly because you don’t have to worry about it leaking and you can carry it on a plane.
  • Since that shampoo bar you are considering was probably handmade, you are supporting a small business, maybe even a local one. Likely a woman-owned one.
  • We use pure essential oils when creating our bars so each time you shampoo it is an aromatherapy experience that leaves you feeling a bit better than when you began!

We get it. Your hair is your crowning glory and you don’t want to trust that beautiful mane to just any shampoo that comes along. Know that we have been making our shampoo bars almost from the very beginning which is over 20 years ago. On top of that, Susan uses our shampoo bars regularly herself and always tries to take them when traveling. Give us a try. We really think you will love the results!
